From Pantry to Pamper: DIY Spa Day Recipes

Who doesn’t love a relaxing day at the spa? We know we do!

As Mother’s Day approaches, we’re thinking of ways to pamper the moms in our lives. This doesn’t have to be a pricy gift; you can skip the expensive store-bought products and look in your own kitchen for a head-to-toe spa treatment! Check out these natural recipes with fresh ingredients for a DIY spa day at home.

Banana Hair Mask

Banana, avocado, honey, and olive oil homemade hair mask

Potassium is not only great for your body and muscles, but potassium also helps prevent hair loss, promotes hair growth, and balances the pH level of the skin. Plus, this hair mask smells amazing!

What you need:

  • 1 soft, overripe banana
  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil (olive oil works too)
  • Optional ingredients: avocados (moisturizes and reduces frizz), egg (strengthens damaged strands), and honey (adds shine)

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, making sure to break down the banana fully and mix well with other ingredients. Apply to hair and scalp and let rest for 30 minutes. We recommend putting on a shower cap to prevent any messes.

Oatmeal Honey Face Mask

Homemade oatmeal honey face mask

This face mask is ultra-moisturizing! Honey attracts and retains moisture which helps our skin look fresh and young. Oatmeal is a great exfoliant, and it contains many different amino acids which are necessary for healthy skin.

What you need:

  • ½ cup oatmeal, uncooked
  • 1/4  to ½ cup water
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp. honey

In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook oatmeal, water, milk, and honey for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring frequently with a spatula or spoon. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Massage a thick layer of plain honey all over your clean face and neck before applying the mask. Apply mask to your face with upward strokes. Lie down and relax for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the mask by using a soft facial washcloth and warm water.

Orange & Green Tea Bath Salts

orange and green tea homemade bath salts

Do you love to soak in the tub? These are the perfect bath salts to go with a relaxing soak. The natural oils in the orange help with moisturizing, while the green tea contains additional antioxidant properties and benefits for tired skin. Green tea is also said to tighten skin and give you an incredible glow.

What you need:

  • 1 orange
  • Epsom salt (1 cup)
  • Green tea packets (2 packets)

Add the juice of 1 orange to a bowl with 1 cup of Epsom salt. Cut open the corner of green tea bags and pour into wet orange Epsom salt. Mix thoroughly and add approximately half the mixture to a hot bath. Place the leftover bath salts in a jar with a lid, place in a cool location, and use as needed.
