Hooray for spring and the bounty of fresh veggies and fruits that come with it!
In fact, we want to make the seasonal harvest the star of our “snacktivities” and get our kids in the kitchen this spring.
Fruit and Veggie Art
I know everyone says, “Don’t play with your food,” but at Dream Dinners, we know what fun can come from this type of sensory input. Enter, Fruit-and-Veggie-Scapes!
Let your kid’s imagination run wild, creating their favorite images or objects out of the fruit and veggies of your choosing. Be sure to select various colors and shapes and have the cut-up fruits and vegetables ready to go.
The best part? You can eat your creations, and kids will love this sneaky way of eating more fruits and vegetables!
Pro Tip: Try introducing different fruits and veggies that they haven’t tried before. This is a great way to take away the intimidation factor of trying new things! If you have the energy, you can even take your kids to the grocery store to help pick items out to try.
Pancake Easter Bunnies
Another great snacktivity with Easter on its way is our Pancake Easter Bunnies! These adorable pancakes will take your family breakfast to the next level. Simply use your favorite pancake recipe or mix and make various sized pancakes, like silver dollar pancakes.
To give your bunnies more detail, add any fruits or other breakfast items like bacon whiskers, cheese front teeth, or strawberry ears.
Watermelon “Cake”
My third snacktivity really takes the cake. Welcome the warmer spring and summer months with a Layered Watermelon Fruit Cake. Kids will love crafting this “cake,” and everyone will love the presentation.
To create this masterpiece, start with a whole large watermelon and cut it in half (equator-wise). From there, cut three progressively larger discs. Remove the rind and shape each disc into a cake layer. Last but not least, finish the cake up by adding decorations with fruits and candies.
Which spring snacktivity do you think your kids will love the most? We’d love to see pictures of your creative food adventures! Comment on this post or send us a direct message on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
